NiMh Shaver Battery fits Braun Norelco & others Review

I installed this battery approximately three weeks ago and used it for two weeks in my Norelco shaver before it needed charging. The original battery lasted a long time but in its final days had to be charged after every second use.
Note; The original battery is a little tricky to remove, you have to have the right tools and a little know how,once out the replacement battery fits perfectly,you just have to re-solder and reassemble and you are back in business.
I gave the product 4 stars because it's new and it is too early to tell how long it will last, but so far it,s great.

Just purchased and have been using this shaver for one week. I was caused to change shavers when a Braun 7500 series died just beyond the warranty period. The new Norelco is beyond my expectations and is much better than my prior Braun. The Noelco is the quitest shaver I have ever used in over thirty years of shaving. It is also produces the cleanest shave I have ever received with few facial areas that you need to go back a second time to shave. Perhaps the only fault I can find with the shaver is that once you have used the automatic cleaner one must remember to either unplug the cleaner base or move the shaver (disconnect the point of contact between the base and the shaver)otherwise the shaver base goes from cleaning mode to charge mode. Otherwise a great shaver and Amazon with its rebate offer makes the shaver a great deal.

Worked well five times. Then it slowed down and made cutting more difficult despite removing head and running water through it to clean, as per instructions. Then it would run before cutting, but upon trying to edge trim my moustache, it would stop immediately, as if a single hair could jam it. Removing head, as required for cleaning, showed that bottom part with its drive motor worked fine, with a rotating metal stub that fit loosely into a poorly made plastic part that moved the blade. It appears that this plastic part's stability, shape and alignment changed after a few uses allowing hairs to jam its movement. A poor design that shouldn't have used plastic. Do not buy

Philips Norelco Qg3270/41 Multigroom Pro, Silver Review

I got this groomer because I wasn't very happy with the one I have now. Right out of the box, I was happy with one thing. The plug that goes into the wall is very nicely designed. The chunky adapter part sits horizontally in the outlet instead of vertically. I find those big boxy ones that end up blocking the other outlet annoying. You either have to plan ahead with the plugs, rearrange, or hope that you don't have two annoying things like that to plug in at the same time. Next, I use this primarily to trim and maintain my goatee. The beard and moustache comb slides down over the top of the cutting blades and completely surrounds the trimmer. Other trimmers I've used have much flimsier ones that just clip on to the tip of the trimmer. I have always had trouble with those guides flying off. This one is extremely secure. The numbering guide for trimmer length is also extremely easy to see. I've just started using it, but it's already one of the best trimmers I've used in the 20 or so years I've been using them. I doubt I'll be using it to cut my own hair (I'm a wuss about that sort of thing), but the precision trimmer has helped me rein in the hair right over my ears. The ear and nose trimmer is one of the least painful ones I've used, too.

And the winner is ... Williams Lectric Shave with Electric Glide Formula being a very close second
This is a review of six products and this same review is posted on each product's Amazon site. The products tried were (in order of preference): Williams Lectric Shave, Electric Glide Formula (California North), Afta Pre-electric by Mennen (original), Skin Bracer, Eltron Prep and Kinexium Shave Oil by King-Of-Shaves.
I have used an electric shaver for more than 30 years and, for the first time in over 20 years, am trying these pre-electric lotions again after having shaved without these the last 20 years. In general, these all provide a noticeably smoother and less irritating shaving experience. They don't speed up the process, but do allow for a close shave while minimizing the shaver `burn' sensation that follows shaving. The trick is to find the one that you prefer based upon application, performance and odor.
Bottom line: Despite the superior application and lower `oily' feel of Afta, I had to go with Williams Lectric Shave. It is easy to wash off (if you wish) and has a mild and pleasant odor. Electric Glide Formula is a very close second and I alternate between the two, but use Williams Lectric Shave much more often. Williams Lectric Shave has the least amount of 'gumming' in the blades vs. the Electric Glide Formula (which can be heavy).
The gel consistency of Afta is much better for application than the liquids (which run through your fingers, like water), but only Afta is a gel. It's surprising: you'd think they would all be scrambling to offer the superior gel consistency or, at least, put the liquids it into a spray pump. If you put the Williams Lectric Shave and Electric Glide Formula into sample-sized spray pumps, spray them on your face then spread with your hand, you will have a much better and less wasteful experience.
Application (applying it to your face):
Using a spray pump for the water consistency products is a must. Without a spray pump, application is difficult and wastes product (as it runs off your hand)
- Afta has a gel consistency that makes application easy and can sting.
- Electric Glide Formula has a water consistency and no sting when applied.
- Williams Lectric Shave has a water consistency and can sting.
- Skin Bracer has a water consistency and can sting.
- Eltron Prep has a water consistency and can sting.
- Kinexium Shave Oil is like spraying WD-40 onto your face: VERY oily and is no longer a candidate.
Shaving:
They are ranked in order of preference. Most of the products cause `gumming' of the beard trimmings in the shaver blades. This will require more frequent cleaning of the shaver than shaving without them.
- Afta has less of an `oily' feel to it that is easy to wash off. There is no 'gumming' (clumping of the beard trimmings in the blades).
- Williams Lectric Shave has a moderate `oily' feel that is somewhat easy to wash off. There is very little 'gumming'.
- Electric Glide Formula has a moderate `oily' feel that is easy to wash off. Heavier 'gumming' vs. the above two.
- Skin Bracer has a moderate `oily' feel that is difficult to wash off and can cause `gumming'.
- Eltron Prep has a moderate `oily' feel that is difficult to wash off and can cause `gumming'.
Scent following sink washing of the face:
These will all stay with you for many hours, so you better like what you pick (ranked in order of preference).
- Williams Lectric Shave has an `evergreen' odor.
- Electric Glide Formula has a mild citrus odor
- Skin Bracer has a moderate lime odor
- Afta has a strong musty `woodsy' odor.
- Eltron Prep has a `skunk' type of odor

You don't HAVE to use the cleaning function of the Braun. You can use it like any other shaver and clean it with a brush. But if you don't mind paying ~$60/year on these refills, then the cleaning system works great. I hope eventually someone decides to make generic versions of the refills or sells the fluid only so we can refill them (like they do with inkjet printer cartridges). I would NOT take the advice of the guy who recommended using alcohol and lemon juice as a refilling liquid. Lemon has sugar (and other impurities) in it, and alcohol doesn't have lubricating agents and may strip the lubricating that the blades need.
Cleaning every other day may seem like a money-saving idea, but I have found that even if you don't use it for weeks, the cleaning fluid still evaporates and you have to replace it almost as frequently, so I figure I might as well get the benefit of cleaning rather than let the stuff just evaporate away.
I hope Amazon starts selling these things directly since buying it from J&R is not a good deal because of the shipping charges. Instead, go to Walgreens or some other store that sells the shaver system, and buy it there. BestBuy.com sells it for the same price with free shipping. J&R's prices are regular street prices (not 50% off).

I didn't buy this item on Amazon, but feel I need to warn potential buyers. This is absolutely the Worst shaver I've ever owned- If you have a med to heavy beard it will not work ! I have to go over the same spot over and over. It works about as well as a butter knife... also Very noisy , not at all like the Remingtons I owned years ago. I'm taking it back to the store tonight and exchanging it for another Norelco.
This problem has nothing to do with Amazon....It's just a Poorly designed shaver !

This works great! Disposables give me razor burn, but I like the close shave. I tried an epilator and that didn't work too well, it just broke off the hairs. I figured I would just give up and use an electric shaver and get a close enough shave, but this one exceeded my expectations. I also like that there's a nice compact place for it on my electrical outlet.
I tried both wet and dry functions and I think it works better dry. When I dried off, I could still feel hairs so I went over it again and the area became smooth. However, during dry shaving, if I go to fast my skin catches in the razor. There was no bleeding, but it wasn't comfortable.
Then only thing I don't like is that there's no cord attachment. That's probably for safety reasons, but I would like that option when the battery starts to lose it charge.

Same as first post. Will not hold a charge. Unfortunately I bought mine the day before HP's review or I would not have purchased in the first place. These must be old inventory with expired batteries. After charging all night you can hear the motor slow down in seconds. I don't need an LCD battery meter to tell me this is no good. I would avoid this one - sounds like this is not a coincidence.
UPDATE 1/28/2011:
I received a replacement shaver from DiscountsJungle. They were cooperative and prompt. Unfortunately the replacement unit is worse than the first - in more ways than one. The battery in the replacement has even less capacity, but at least the first shaver was clean. This second shaver looks grubby! It still has someone esle's whiskers in it! G R O S S !!!!
I asked, and was assured by a DiscountsJungle customer service agent, that these were refurbished by Remington during my conversation with her before they shipped me the replacement. Perhaps she was told that they were.
So I called Remington after receiving this filthy specimen and they assured me that they do not refurbish these shavers. These shavers arrive in what looks like new, bullet-proof, heat sealed, heavy duty clear plastic blister packaging, with a label that says "Refurbished to Original Specifications" so you assume they are from a factory. This is not the case.
I am not only writing this review update to warn potential buyers but also because I have been buying Remington shavers all my life and I know they would not put out a product in this condition.
I have a feeling that this item will be listed as "no longer available" before the next update. I have suggested in an email to DiscountsJungle that they pull this product before they cause inconvenience to other customers.
This is not a review about the merchant, but about the product. I do not believe this is DiscountsJungle's fault, but I do believe their customer service department should take a customer's concerns more seriously and check the authenticity of these units. It would be great if they could post a reponse about their findings.

I wasn't looking for a life-changing personal care appliance; I just wanted a new rechargeable trimmer to replace my dying old one. I stumbled across this gizmo in a store (I won't say where) and saw all the attachments and and the pricepoint and figured I'd give the Norelco name the benefit of the doubt and take a chance on it. I have been quite pleasantly surprised.
Not only do all of the attachments work well, it's more powerful than I expected. My previous trimmer had a wide, blunt tip, and it was hard to see what I was doing in a mirror because the shaver blocked my view. This trimmer's tip is tapered so it's easy to see the point of contact. And the nose hair trimmer is more powerful than my old AA-battery-powered model, so I trashed that one as well, which has simplified my morning routine. Cleanup is also easier, since the attachments can be detached and flushed in the sink.
As for battery life, I followed the directions when doing the initial charge, and I've used the trimmer quite a few times over the past four weeks without having had to recharge yet.
So in conclusion, I recommend this product without reservation! I wouldn't say it's changed my life, but it has simplified my mornings at least.

I have been shaving my head for over 10 years. I have used most every blade, cream, gel or electric razor on the market. The closest shave for me has been a Mach 3 with a shaving gel. However, shaving my head every day with a blade takes a lot of time and alot of Mach 3 razors---Additionally, I am prone to ingrown hairs on the back of my head. Because of these reasons, I thought I would try the peanut. WOW!!!!! What a great product. It does not shave as close as a blade but it is darn close and it shaves much closer than any other clipper out there. (now that I have lots of gray hair, the very close cut looks like a shave) Using the Peanut has solved my ingrown hair issue completely. This little bugger is very well made and has plenty of power. Also, I have NEVER cut myself with it. The best shave will always be a blade but the Peanut gets the job done in a third of the time, with no cuts or ingrown hairs. It's a winner.
UPDATE Aug 2009......the Peanut continues to amaze. It cuts just as good as the day I bought it in 2007. No pulled hairs, the white blade guards still snap on firmly and I am still on the original blade! A drop of mineral oil every now and then is the only maintenance I've done. Finally a quality product that works and lasts. Bravo Wahl Bravo!!!!

I still go to an old-fashioned barber, and my favorite part of the experience is the warm lather in the barber shop. I had looked around for a hot lather machine for a while, but unsuccessfully. A few years ago, I received a Conair hot lather machine as a gift, and it has been wonderful! It warms nicely, and it has a thermostat to keep your lather from getting too hot.
This machine has been great to me. Just remember to read and follow the instructions - if you don't shake the unit before turning it on, the lather will come out all watery and hot. If you're even just thinking about getting a hot lather machine, buy it. It's worth the inexpensive price to pamper yourself, and it lasts forever.

An excellent shaver: holds a charge for 50 minutes according to the manual, but I wondered if it would ever run out. Quick recharge and we're ready again. Good notification lights for low-battery, charging, etc. Actually was looking for a less expensive shaver, but the Norelco model 7345 had only one notification light--when fully charged. When it ran out, you were out of luck, especially if in the middle of shave. So I opted to try this one and loved it. Bought it here on Amazon and saved over $40 anywhere else, including Norelco's web site.

Wahl Professional 8110 5-star Series Balding Clipper Review

This product is outstanding, really. It is professional quality with a powerful motor. I had 4 weeks of hair growth and on my first cut, my girlfriend shaved me clean bald with this clipper in just 5 to 10 minutes. There is no pain or feeling on the skin and it is equivalent to what one would experience when a barber clips your hair. While this clipper won't take you as close as a razor would, it is equivalent to a single day's hair growth which is exactly what most people like it to look like. This clipper is model #8110 and is part of Wahl's professional 5 star series, 785110. To my surprise, the package also included "a bonus" - two cutting guides (1/16" and 3/16"). This product should last for a few years and the included oil is to keep the blade rust free - it certainly would help if Wahl had provided more oil but that is really a trivial point. Likewise, while the cord is reasonably long, I would personally have preferred something a bit longer but this is just finicky me pointing another trivial point. Overall, this product is great, priced right, and is as advertised. Finally, it is made in the U.S.A. so that scores extra points from me!

MANGROOMER Do-It-Yourself Electric Back Hair Shaver Review

The first time I used this product, I had mixed feelings. On the one hand, it is not easy to master and the first time out can be frustrating. On the other hand, it is a unique and helpful tool. If you are too modest to ask your significant other (or your kids - not!) to give that hairy back of yours a buzz cut, you should give this a try. There are several challenges, but all can be overcome with care and practice.
First, read the directions. The main guidance provided is to shave against the way the hair is growing - the "grain" of the hair. Most of your back hair grows down, so that means shaving "up" by extending the arm on the product and pulling it slowly up your back. However, that is not the only direction that your back hair grows. Anyone who has tried this product now knows the several directions that the long-ignored back hair can grow.
Next, don't get hung up on the red splotches that you will see (in the mirror) on your back when you first start using this. They go away real fast. Your back is just not used to coming in contact with something this sharp. And it is not dangerously sharp, just irritating sharp at first.
Further, once you get a feel for this, I recommend NOT looking into the mirror but use this like you would use a back-scrubber or loofah for washing your back -- visualize it on your back and use long "up" strokes. Doing it by "feel" will help keep the cutting edge flush against your skin to get a cleaner cut and avoid the red marks that you make when the cutting edge is slanted against your skin.
Using a hand mirror and the bathroom (or other fixed) mirror is the only way to get started. However, everything goes backwards in the 2-mirror arrangement. If you try to adjust the cutter by looking in the mirror/s as you turn it, you'll likely end up twisting it more the wrong way. Hence the advice to use it like a back brush, don't always be looking in the mirror.
Best to use before taking a shower. That way the cut hair that remains on your back will be washed off.
And finally, be ready for the challenge of doing the side of your back that is the same as the hand you favor - right-handed guys will have a much easier time getting to the left side of their backs, and vice versa. But with patience and practice, I believe you can do both sides well.
It is best to check out your back in the mirror every few weeks or so to keep the forest down. One of the reasons people get frustrated with this product is that the first time they use it is with long-ignored hair that is, well, long. Regular use will not only give you practice, but you'll be trimming smaller shrubs.
This is a handy gadget that will, over time, become part of your routine. It is not perfect, but it is lightweight, cuts well when flush against the surface of your skin and more manageable than an electric shaver (or razor - gasp!) taped to a broom handle.

I have always liked the Schick band. I stopped using Gillette when they switched to the new style. I tried the Quattro and I have never gone back! Actually I bought a lot of blade replacements just in case they decide to discontinue the razor. The reason i prefer this razor is the angle on the handle. It actually has one! The new Gillette's do not, and it makes me feel as if I am shaves with a straight blade with no protection. On the other hand with the Schick, with the angle in the handle, I can use it with little presure or a lot, up or down. No problems. Great Product!

-- Its output is very weak.

-- It feels cheap.

Panasonic ES7058S Vortex Triple Blade Men's Shaver Review

I switched to electric shavers a few years ago when I kept getting cut with blades, even the triple blades razors. My first eletric was not a wet-dry model, nor a Panasonic, and after awhile I went back to blades because the electric just didn't shave very close. Then I learned about Panasonic's wet-dry electric and bought one. It was a double-blade model that shaved well and lasted a long time.
When this ES7058 was released, I bought one right away, so I have been using it for a very long time. The price was right for the features and after using a wet-dry model, I'd never buy anything else.
I have no complaints at all. The triple blade shaves much closer than any electric I've used before, practically indistinguishable from the triple-blade conventional razors. Quite honestly, the Panasonic does not shave as close as they do, but it is darn near as close, certainly not enough of a difference to make me revert to a blade razor.
The alcohol-free cleaning system is outstanding, too. I clean the heads every other day, which is more than sufficient.
Tip: The thinner you spread shaving cream over your face the quicker and closer the shave.
Tip: Some Panasonic shavers are "rinsable" rather than true wet-dry. the 7058 can get wet all over, you can hold it under the faucet stream or use it in the shower. This isn't true for rinsable shavers, which are watertight only for rinsing under the faucet.
Tip: I've used Edge saving gel for almost 30 years. Recently, a friend recommended Shave Secret (shavesecret-dot-com) and after two days I was converted. You can get it as Walgreens and I found it definitely helps the razor shave closer.
Bottom line: My full endorsement of this shaver. If I lost mine I'd buy another one just like it.

I have been cutting my hair for a VERY LONG Time, but since 2004 I have been looking for and probably found the best hair clippers by choice. I can give myself a bald fade/skin fade which is about the most difficult thing to
do with hair clippers... so far. My comparisons / my clippers: I have 1. Philips Norelco QC5170 180-Degree 2.Remington® HC-8017B Corded Haircut Kit Clipper 3. *Remington HC-363. The Philips were not designed to perform Skin fades, and the The Remingtion HC-8017B clipper's CORD is an nuisance. The HC-363 has a low noise level. The Ceramic Coated Blade cuts cleaner (blade to blade cutting is smoother), and a tab bit more quiet than my corded Remington. Also, The HC-363 blades do not get hot after 10 mins of cutting time. My self sharping Remington HC-8017B blades get uncomfortable HOT.... which causes me to Line my hair FIRST prior to cutting it(You must remove guide and have blades touch skin to line up you hair line). The HC-363 blade adjustment lever has click notches which is a Plus if you perform cutting without guides. The notches (5 clicks total) allows you to remember what length or Stub/Stubble (LOL) your hair was cut too. My Remington HC-8017B lever does not have click notches, so if you bump or accidently move the lever while cutting... you will have to GUESS what position is was last at (click notches voids that issue). CORDLESS... If you cut your own hair.... CORDLESS is an absolute PLUS. The hand grip feature on the HC-363 probably would be useful if you are cutting someone else's hair... feature cannot be used cutting your own. This was my first use, so I cannot comment on the charge feature yet, but the first initial charge (approx 5 hour) held for my 20 min hair cut.

I'd like to add my review for this excellent unit as it seems to not get the attention it richly deserves.
I've extensively used and tested numerous electric shavers the past 2 years. I've used every major model and many lesser known products from $15-$280, including the newer wave of products such as the Braun Pulsonic and Norelco Arcitec.
The Panasonic ES8228S is the shaver on my counter and the one I use everyday.
A marketing problem for Panasonic is that typically their products are only found at speciality retailers like Best Buy, Sharper Image etc. In fact, my purchase of the ES8228S occured when I was delighted to see it at a major US Mass Retailer-Target-at a very reasonable price. I hope this experiment works and Panasonic increases its exposure in stores more familiar to the average consumer. I also hope Amazon continues to sell it online.
My review is for the identical unit for sale at Amazon and you'll have a great experience purchasing here as well.
Ironically, I was not thrilled with the last Panasonic I used, the 8043. However, the ES8228S has made 2 innovations from that model that really seem to mean something.
In addition to the fabulous 13000 rpm motor, the ES8228S line adds the ARC foil of its immediate predecessor, AND new "nano sharpened blades."
Many times terminology and features are thrown around in shaver descriptions. In my experience the combination of the motor, ARC foil and ultra sharp blade truly create a revolutionary experience.
Dry, the Panasonic matches the best shaves I'd previously had; which happened to come from the Remington MS series of shavers...also affordable, excellent units which however lack the elegance of the Panasonic and are much louder.
The motor speed and sharpness create an ultra close shave without tearing at the epidermis. You really don't feel the shave as you do in some units
Unlike the Pulsonic and Arcitec the ES8228S affords you the option to shave with shave creme, shave soap, shave gel, in the shower. This results in an obscenely good shave. But my dry shaves have been so good I've seldom felt the need.
The ES8228S is a bit smaller and lighter than the Pulsonic. Looks are highly subjective of course, but to me, its a beautiful, elegant and functional device in look and feel.
Braun has the best self cleaning module in my opinion. However, the improved cleaner with the Pansonic ES8228 comes close. It is small, and attractive. It offers several clever options...for example, you can rinse off the shaver and dry and charge the unit without cleaning it to save the cleaning cartridge. The dry cartridge in the Panasonic cleaner does last about 1.5 months, compared to about a month in the Braun, at the same price. It also doesn't evaporate if it sits unusued for a time for some reason.
Many knock the idea of a self-cleaner as a way to get extra money for cartridges. Personally, I love it. With an electric shaver you ought to spend $5 every month or two on a lubricant anyway. I'm happy to spend $5 per month on a beautifully clean and lubricated device every single day.
There are many good electric shavers out there, in many price ranges.
All I can say in conclusion is this is the best overall shaver I have ever used and I cannot recommend its purchase for yourself or as a gift highly enough.

I had recently purchased an electric razor to shave my head. Prior, I had been using the standard razor, but was periodically cutting the back of my head. Often not even realizing it until I saw the blood on a towel, or shirt collar. I knew there was a period of adjustment when switching to an electric razor, but I also knew I needed a pre-shave routine. The only items available at Target or WalMart were the liquid pre-shave, if they even carried it. I wasn't too keen on this method as those products tend to stink to high heaven.
So I saw the Pre-Shave Powder Stick here on amazon, ordered the 6-pack.
I gotta say, using the pre-shave powder stick made a big difference. Until this product arrived I was using baby powder on my head, but was worried about it clogging the electric razor. It worked ok, but once the Powder Sticks arrived, there was NO comparison!
If you're using an electric razor, i totally recommend buying this. It's very simple to use, goes on smooth with no smell, and the razor just glides over your skin! And YES, it even gave me a closer shave!

I'm not sure what the previous reviewers were expecting, but I thought this was an excellent product. For trimming along the bikini line, the trimmer head was perfect, and the number 4 setting (one comb has settings from 1-4, the other 5-8 increasing in length) on the trimmer head left the bikini area a very reasonable, trimmed length.
Without the extra combs, it does cut closely, though not as close as a blade razor. It's perfect for trimming down longer hairs before going in with a razor, or for a quick skim before putting on a swimsuit, especially if you're not a fan of putting sharp, large, awkward blades in tight places. And not cutting quite as close really reduces razor burn and ingrown hairs. I did nick myself once, but it was more of a pinch and I hardly felt it. As long as you turn the blade so it stays even with the skin from edge to edge, it's easy to avoid nicks. Being able to use it dry makes it a lifesaver for quick fixes.
For someone who doesn't do a lot of work down there and just wants to stay neat, it's perfect. Far less work than shaving all the time, far less expensive than waxing, far less drastic than both. And at this price, it doesn't cost much more than a pack of new razor blades. For my money, it's the best twenty-some dollars I've spent in a long time.

Wahl 79524-1001 Deluxe Chrome Pro with Multi-Cut Clipper & Trimmer, 27 Pieces Review

I have now used the clippers a couple of times and can say that they are a great product. It was very sturdy in my hand and felt like a professional quality trimmer. There was no jamming or binding of the clippers - it glided through my hair with no problems (although I do have fairly thin hair, hence I cut it very short). I only used the trimmer and not any of the attachments - I cut my hair very short using the blade only and no length guide - so I can't comment on those. However, I must agree with other posters that the case could use some work - all of the pieces pretty much fly around loose in the case and there really isn't a good way to store everthing. Wahl should have designed the case differently, so that there would be a place to put each accessory (kind of like how a CD binder works). Again, this doesn't affect me much since I don't use the attachments. I highly recommend these clippers and would recommend to a friend in the market for doing their own trimming at home.
July 2008 Update: Still using these clippers every week to keep the close cropped look and they work great. Just brush them off and oil the blades with the included brush and oil after each use and put them back in the drawer. I'm able to get the whole head in about 5-10 minutes. I just clip in the shower stall before I shower, scoop up the cut hair and wash the rest down the drain. And the included mini-clipper is great for getting a very close cut on the back of the neck and sideburns. It isn't meant for much more than that, but does a great job - I use it about 1-2x a month and haven't had to change the battery yet (8 months later).

Norelco Shaver A Closer Shave Precision Cutting Review

I've used almost every high end electric razor on the market in the last 15 years. I've had the Braun, both the pulsonic and the 7 series. I've had the Panasonic and I've had several Norelcos. The only model I've not tried are any of the Remmingtons, based on their consistanly poor reviews.
In summary, if you looking to go to electric you have to choose between the foil shavers, like the Braun and Panasoinc or the rotery model, like Norelco. My experience with foil shavers is that they seem to cause more ingrown hairs on my face, than any other method of shaving. The Panasonic in particular almost cuts too close, and left me with razor burn. I tried shaving with it "wet" as they advocate, with cream.. this method left me with a 5:00 shadow at about 11:15.. and made a huge mess. If I was going to futz with shaving cream I'd use blade.
Which in the end, not one electric I've ever used does as good a job as a cheap disposable blade.. except this one.
Prior to this razor I had been using one of the 8000 series models with the "faster shave" heads, those have three rings of holes on them. The claim being it was 50% faster and X amount closer. I found those heads to be pretty irritating to my face, even after a year of using it, and it seemed to pull my skinn and missed more whiskers than I'd expect, leading to ingrown hairs or that super long solo whisker you missed all week that your wife plucks off with a tweezer right before you go out with her.. ouch.
The 8000 series is about $20.00 to $30.00 more than this model as well. Years ago my first Norelco was a 7000 series and I remembered it being very good. With that in mind, when my 8000's blades dulled and it was time for a new set.. rather than spend $40.00 on new blades I figured and extra $20.00 for a whole new razor. Not wanting to spend $200 on the top of the line, I stepped down this time, and I'm very glad I did.
The heads on this razor are better than the more expensive model, it shaves closer, comfortably, than any razor I've used.. which was too close, and it does so in a way that is very comfortable and easy to use. No pulling skin no missed hairs, no ingrown hairs, and no rash like the panasonic.. And, although I like the cleaning base for the Braun, it was like haveing a new razor every shave, it was still $6.00 a month just for the cleaning solution. This one is just about perfect.
The only complaint I have, as they've cut costs on these things, Norleco has eliminated the carrying case, very handy when you travel as the blade cover comes off easy and if you nick a blade.. you're screwed and they've eliminated the charger stand.. a very very nice place to store the unit when you're at home. I'd pay for those things to get them added back in the box.
This is a no frills razor that works fantastic, and the price is certainly right. Highly reccomended.

I ordered this razor and it was well worth the price, I find that this is the only type of electric razor that does a perfect job of shaving the neck (I dont know why).
I believe that this is the type of electric razor that, if cared for, will last many years.
This razor is the same brand that I purchased 9 years ago and it finaly went out only because I could not replace the battery because of the age of the razor, so that was a lot of great shaves in 9 years.
Lastly, this razor shaves so close that it gives almost as close of a shave as my streight razor.

- Standard Gillete razor cartridges. I would rate the groomer much lower if it required razors specialized for this model only. With standard Gillete Fusion razors, you can easily replace them at just about anywhere.
- Charges fairly fast, and a full charge can take on just about any grooming job from start to finish.
- Appears to be solidly built. Feels nice and solid when holding it in hand.
- Mostly water-proof makes this razor shower friendly.
Cons:
-Priced slightly higher, in my opinion.
- While the shaving and trimming work quite fine on their own, the combination mode takes practice. It's not easy to get the angle just right. And the combo mode is complete useless when it comes to "tricky" places.
- I have a Braun rechargeable razor (for facial hair), and it has a completely different charger. I know this problem is not necessarily limited to Braun, but it would nice for a change to have a sharable charger (especially between two Braun razor products!).

I was looking for an epilator that works both with its cord and cordless, that works both on 220V and 110V, and that does an excellent job epilating. Well, this epilator has none of these things, but it is still worth trying.
I won't bother you with vague descriptions on the inflicted pain. I've never shaved, and apart from my very first epilation I've never experienced any pain worth speaking of. Perhaps a mild pinching from time to time, but this epilator takes care even of that. The metalic protective head that it has really reduced the (negligible) pain I felt with other machines (I am epilating for about 15 years). Let me rephrase that: when I tried it dry I felt no pain whatsover.
Let's start with the good stuff. I eventually bought this machine because of the fact that it is fully emergable in water. I've tried it out to epilate my armpits. It worked miracles!!! It was an instant love! Totally painless (armpits ALWAYS hurt in the past for me), no irritation, perfect job. I did not try it on the bikini line (which was always easier for me to epilate) but I expect the same stellar results there too --when wet.
The other day I tried it dry on my legs. Its performance was disappointing. Indeed I managed to epilate my legs perfectly and painlessly. But as other people have written in reviews on this product (possibly in other links), you have to pass over and over again from the same spot for quite some time until you pick up everything (I usually now take off the metal skin protector, because I have the feeling that it increases its performance -and in any case I don't feel any pain). You will epilate, and the result will be good, but you really need to be ... patient. In comparison, other epilators are so powerful that they will cut off a good portion of the hair (especially if your hair is very very soft, say because you've never shaved). Although one needs to strike a balance between the power and the results, this epilator really takes time.
The battery lasts for about 20 minutes. Charging time is about 12 hours if i remember well. You will need your whole 20 minutes to do your legs all the way up. If you'd like to add bikini, armpits, or whatever else you feel like epilating, you have to leave that for the following day.
I did not use the shaver enough to be able to judge it. I've used it only with the comb and as a trimmer, and I was very happy with the results and the performance.
All in all, I would suspect that if your hair is a bit more persistent than mine, you'd be even more disappointed with the performance of this epilator. However, it was the first epilator that gave me such a good and painless result for my armpits, that I decided to overlook its sub-standard performance when dry and give it three stars.
If you are looking for some good dry epilator with a good performance, then this is a risky choice. If you are curious about the wet function, but you never epilate anything else besides legs and you never have to scream from pain when doing so, then this is again a risky choice. However, if you epilate very sensitive areas and you always have some mild irritation afterwards, then this machine is definitely worth buying. You'll love the wet option.
When looking for an epilator, I was frustrated that almost none of them described the technical characteristics in an unambiguous way. Should you care for the same details as I did: this epilator works only cordless, the battery capacity is on the short side, charging takes half a day, it works only in 110V, it has two speeds, and its performance varies strongly with the way it is used and the person it is used by.
Still, I love it for some specific reasons and I will buy a 220V epilator with both cord and cordless function and a known good quality to cover the rest of my needs.

Wahl Groomsman Bump-Prevent Shaver & Trimmer Review

Here's my thorough review. It is based on the description and picture on the site as of the submittal of the review. Subsequent changes may be made to the site. First, the model 9906-1647 is actually the GMAN series. That is what I received. It is black.
It comes with three attachments, none of which are adjustable - stubble, 1/8 inch, and 3/16 inch. No adjustable attachment as pictured at top. The attachments are very difficult to remove. They are useless. All three pull hair like crazy. They are also only meant to be used at a precise angle, otherwise the hair is cut at differing lengths. That makes this model useless for any purpose other than that unshaved look that I so adore, achieved with no attachments. That's why I bought this. But I do have sideburns, so good attachments would have been useful. The no pull, no snag guarantee* is for the blades only, and only applies with new or fully-charged battery usage for the first year. If it pulls when the batteries are low, change the batteries. No problems with that, so far. --Notice reviews for other Wahl products with one-star ratings. No comments from Wahl when customers complain about attachments pulling hair. This leads me to believe it is fairly typical for many models (not a defect but a design flaw). Look to see if there are any comments from Wahl below. It would be nice if I could get attachments that actually work and don't pull hair or cut unevenly, but I assume there are none that exist. Otherwise, I expect comments from Wahl below.--
This model also requires 3 AA batteries (that's right, three) instead of the two stated in the description. A clear vinyl ribbon is included to strap to the first battery inserted and used to pull the second and first out when batteries need replacing. This ribbon broke on my first attempt to remove the two batteries. It's vinyl, for crying out loud. The batteries are very snug and difficult to remove. I felt the vinyl stretch and stretch, knowing full well what was likely coming. That's why I tried to remove them right after inserting them. --I'm using rechargeables in my unit, BTW.-- I am now using electrical tape wrapped around each of the two batteries (both are taped individually) in the same fashion as the original ribbon (the sticky sides are touching each other with no sticky exposed) in order to remove them without resorting to using a butter knife or similar item. Still a difficult task. The third battery is installed last and is fairly easy to remove.
The storage base does hold everything (except the blade oil) albeit loosely, if you play around a little with the arrangement (this is not the case with my GMAN T-blade model - same base, different size attachments, all of those pull as well, but are much easier to remove as they use a different method of attaching). I wouldn't carry the base and all from one room to another without expecting falling pieces. My blade oil (which has no place in the storage base) came in a small, standup, screwtop bottle rather than the tube pictured, and I'm glad of it. The tube can be messy, even after it is closed.
I am using this as a replacement for the GMAN T-blade rechargeable model 9920. The battery on that model is easily overcharged if forgotten about, which I did several times, after which the battery barely trimmed my neck without needing to be recharged. You cannot simply use it while plugged in either, which left me having to wait for a charge before I could finish (several hours, at least). I just finished up with my Conair. I could have bought another battery for [...] bucks (with shipping), but probably would have overcharged that one, too. This unit I use with regular rechargeable batteries which cannot over-charge with my Duracell value charger. The best part is that I can use regular alkaline if I lose my charge in the middle of a trim (or another set of rechargeables). God help me if it comes to that, considering how hard it is to remove batteries. I can also use the T-blade on this by replacing the standard blade with it (though this one is actually more efficient, so far).
This trimmer gives a closer trim than similar from Conair. I still use my Conair for my sideburns. It has adjustable attachment that is precise at all angles and never pulls a hair on my head. For my personal usage, this model is passable, but I would have preferred a 2 battery unit (easier recharging of batteries since my charger only charges 2 or 4 at a time). I'll buy another set of batteries so I always have a backup since I'm using two in my camera. If you can stand the two to four-day unshaved look as opposed to the one to two-day look, may I suggest any of the Conair models available over this, especially for those with varying lengths of facial hair, such as mustache, beard, goatee, sideburns. Though I can't vouch for their strength as my hair is not that thick.
Bluntly stated, you would be wise to avoid this trimmer altogether for anything other than that one to two-day unshaved look.

I was sick of shaving. I tried waxing and sugaring...too messy. I tried my mother's EpiLady when I first started shaving my legs 15+ years ago. I still remember the pain. I decided to try epilating again. This product is great. Not even close to the pain of the old-time EpiLady. Yes, it does still hurt... after all, you are ripping the hairs out of your legs! But, the more I use it, the less pain there is. It still leaves some hairs, but the product works better than I expected and my legs are smooth for about 2 weeks. The product info says you can use it on your underarms and bikini area, although I haven't been brave enough to try it. I would still recommend pretreatment with a martini...or two.

Here are the pros/cons.
Pros:
1) Excellent shave, although I couldn't tell the difference between it and the Mach 3 power in a controlled experiment where I shaved half my face with each one.
2) Swivel mechanism is better than M3
3) Great sturdy design
4) low battery indicator
Cons:
1) Bigger than the M3 (not by much), but enough to make shaving under the nose harder than with the M3. The trimmer is single blade and not very useful.
2) Different blade design means you can't use M3 blades. For several generations in the past, you could have used the previous blades.
3) Shave similar to M3 (see above).

I purchased this shaver after giving up on my Braun 7600 series razor. It just didn't give me a close enough shave and I was tired of buying the cleaning system solution - which are a rip off in my opinion. I had never tried a Norelco product before and was skeptical. However it gives me the closest shave I have ever gotten from an electric. I initially tried the middle setting and got a little irritation on my neck but otherwise fine. It does take some getting used to the circular heads when shaving my upper lip but did cover the area better than the Braun - which left a small ridge near my nose. I like being able to just rinse the heads instead of an expensive and sticky cleaning system. They could leave out all the fancy electronics and I didn't need a clock in the base. I would have given 5 stars if it had been a little less expensive.

I purchased this replacement part because I accidentally dropped my razor and caused the original foil screen to get a nick in it. This nick would tear into my skin and cause my face to bleed while trying to shave. This part was a perfect replacement and I'm very satisfied with it. The only minor problem I have is that my original razor was black and this part is gray causing it to stand out. Again, this is not a big deal and I would highly recommend this part to anyone looking to replace their OEM foil screen.

I wish it were possible to give NEGATIVE stars, because that's the most this hunk of junk deserves. This is without a doubt the single worst product I have bought in my entire life. Ever. Period.
If I could say anything nice, it's that the battery holds a good, long charge. Beyond that, I'm pretty sure Satan himself had an unwashed hand in its development. The shaver drags across one's face like that rusty old push mower your parents used to make you cut the lawn with. Despite all the plastic flexy bits, it still somehow manages to completely fail to contour to one's face. At all. Then the plastic flexy bits pop apart, releasing angry little rotating knives of doom right against your skin. I'll never understand how someone thought this was fit to release to the public - they should all be recalled.
I'm mailing it back to Remington (along with an angry letter) because it can only be destroyed by throwing it into the fires of Mount Doom from whence it was forged.

Panasonic WES9079P Combo Replacement Shaver Foil and Blade Set Review

In the early 90s, Pansonic began to introduce their "Linear" line of shavers. They soon became available at a reasonable price so, naturally, I had to try one. I've used Brauns, Remmington-USA made, and the Panasonics. I purchased the ES 882 and was delighted with it's performance and speedy shave it provided. The head and foils were smooth, thorough, and quiet. Since then, the original shaver goes strong and it's batteries hold a charge and last as if it was brand new. I've never had the case apart except for cleaning. Fast forward to today, I have used and enjoyed this shaver so much, I have ordered my next set of blades and foil. These, seen on this page, never disappoint and continue to deliver a close, smooth shave. I've used several newer Panasonic shavers, all sharp and consistent, but the good old 882 is the workhorse of the group and the one used for travel and rough duty because it can take it and so do the blades and foil. If your shaver uses this set, rest asssured it will perform well with a new set. I also use the Remmington shaver saver spray. It lubes and sharpens the entire head. It can be used once a week with amazing results. Great for extending the cutting life of your current set of blades/foil. If you've been pondering purchasing this set, do it, you won't be sorry in the least.

Panasonic ES7056S Vortex Triple Head HydraClean Men's Shaver Review

I've been looking for an electric shaver for a while, since my old Norelco was dropped and was exploded. I enjoyed using an electric for my cheeks and mustache and chin, but anywhere below the neckline just got destroyed by the Norelco. I'm not sure who came up with the concept of using three discs to cut hair from your face, but they should be beaten. My neck would turn red, get rashes, and the hair would not have been cut at all. So, Norelcos are out. I wanted a wet/dry shaver, so I discounted the Braun models (which are expensive and according to a friend less-than-ideal as a shaver), and I began looking. This Panasonic caught my eye, but there were dozens of models with basically the same technology and features, with random price fluctuations. It breaks down like this:
The ES8078S is basically this model with a new "Linear" motor. There is basically no difference in performance, but the new motor makes this one cost 30 bucks more.
the ES8077S is as the above one, but is a Gold color. Also 110 bucks as of this review, and both of these come with the Vortex cleaning stand.
And on and on and on.... there are dozens of these little choices, with tiny differences and random price changes and so forth. Its this way with Norelco, too, but it's annoying and looking for a new razor was a big pain. Hopefully this review will help if you're in the same boat.
I decided to go with this one. It went on sale the other weekend for 49.99 - 70% off! - and I couldn't wait any longer. I got it the other day and I couldn't be happier with it.
The shaver works great. That's the main thing I care about - My first shave, my second and my third are all perfect, razor close with NO IRRITATION! It says that normally your face needs 30 days to adjust from a blade, but the only thing my face needed to adjust to was the lack of razor burn and nicks. I've been using a Mach 3 and a Quattro, but this is just as smooth. My neck is perfect, too - the head doesn't irritate my skin and it's been noticeably better since I started using the Panasonic. I used it dry the first two days and then tried a wet shave out of the shower for the third, and the wet shave was great! I wasn't expecting an electric to perform this well, but I treated it just like a blade and the results are the same. The wet shave was (BARELY) closer, but only marginally, and I've been happy with the results. It's as quiet as an electric as I've ever used, and while certainly not silent, it's quiet enough to not wake roommates who are still sleeping, which is all I need in terms of volume.
As to other features...
The Vortex cleaning stand works very well. It is a little noisy for the first 15 minutes, but no more than a dryer or television in the background. The cleaning cartridges work for six months and I've only used the cleaning setting once for three shaves, so this seems like it'll last well, especially since a 3 pack of cartridges for the cleaning solution is only 10 bucks here. Also, you can use just soap and water to clean the shaver and it works just as well if you don't want to pony up the dough, but seeing as how I used to drop 10 dollars every four weeks for new blade cartridges, paying those 10 every 1.5 years seems like a deal. It also has settings for just drying, just cleaning, cleaning and drying, charging, charging and cleaning, charging cleaning and drying... whatever you need, this can accommodate your needs, and it looks pretty good, too. Not too stainless-steel-black-marble-countertop in looks, and not too soft, either. The black stand and this blue/silver/black shaver look great, and more importantly, feel good in your hand. It's very well made, heavy enough to feel solid and waterproof. You can take it in the shower with no worries.
These may seem like little things, but all the intagibles are here - noise, feel, look, etc. - and that really matters when you get a shaver you want to keep around for a few years.
If you're looking for a great electric at a bargain price (at 80, this is on the low end, price wise [Norelco's top of the line is 200, Braun is about 140, and even Panasonic's other models can reach mid 150s], but performs beautifully. Buy this and you won't be sorry!

I am 63 and my skin is a lot more tender and subject to cuts than when I was younger. I have been using electric razors off and on for about forty years - Primarily Norelco but also Remington, Braun and Toshiba. During those forty years I did not notice any significant change in the quality of the shave or the pulling, picking and burning that came from shaving certain facial sections over and over again. Panasonic takes electric shavers to a level that is comparable to a blade (which still gives the closest shave) without the mess and pain. I was not sure it was working until I felt the smoothness of the shave. Shaving is much quicker because there are few do overs and it does not irritate sensitive skin. A remarkable and greatly needed advance in electric shavers.

PRO'S: Great, excellent shaving tool. Performance better than expected. I purchased three-- for b-day presents for my brothers. The safety handle keeps you from dropping your razor. Then power on/off button is well-placed and a solid feel. The razor(s) arrived in a timely manner. The written and video instructions were superb; written by someone who has used the shaver, no doubt. Charging time is not unduly long. I shoot a bit of Shaver Saver on the rotating blade assembly and the initial roller blade is still cutting with no appreciable drop in performance or sharpness. Price is right for an electric razor; beats Costco pricing for their Norelco's as well. CON'S: Roller blade could stand out a bit more than the body; but then it was probably designed that way to hold it at the correct angle.

If you've been reading any of the reviews here lately you will know the 8000 series foil/cutterblock combo has been replaced with a new combo now called the series 5 Combi 51S. You will receive this replacement even if the picture on the product page shows "8000 series" as it has been discontinued for over a year. Braun merged the replacement for the 8000 series (Activator) with the 360 Complete. This new foil/cutterblock is garbage! The cutterblock has wide blades, as opposed to the thinner blades of the original 8000 series, which pull your stubble and take MANY passes over your face to shave. They are prone to premature failure and I have gone through 3(THREE) of these in 6 months! (I bought one and two were free through Braun after complaining). All the free replacements in the world weren't making the shaving experience any better. I longed for the days when my Activator 8595 cut smooth, close, and comfortably. After all, this shaver had been my favorite for 6 years so far! I was very close to dumping the whole shaver and moving on when I happened across a reviewer on Amazon who suggested using the 7000 series replacement foil/cutterblock in his review. It worked PERFECTLY! The 7000 series replacement looks just like the much coveted original on my 8595 Activator - down to the thinner cutting blades! It didn't pull my stubble, it cut smooth as butter, and was comfortable: JUST LIKE NEW! I'd like to thank the original reviewer (James L. Walls "sixtoe") for the very good advice.
***Update: August 10th, 2011***

I waited a couple of weeks to write this review so I could let my face get used to a new razor.
Background: I have used Norelco rotary shavers since I began to shave as a teen. My skin has always been sensitive and any time I tried a non-rotary shaver my face would become red and irritated. I also felt I was getting the closest electric shave possible with a rotary shaver. Sometimes I will go several days without shaving and as much as I liked rotaries, they do not do well on a heavy beard growth.
The switch: Whenever the blades needed replacing on my rotary shavers I would buy a whole new razor. The price of replacement blades is almost as much as the shaver itself. My most recent Norelco served me well but in recent months shaving became a dreaded experience. Norelco uses a motor rather than a vibrator like most other shavers and it can tend to slow down when the blades are dull and the beard is thick.
The decision: Although I have never had luck with non-rotary shavers I tried a friend's Braun once and was surprised how much closer it shaved and how my face felt good afterward. His was the cheap $29 model and I would have been happy with it, but I liked the style of the Model 5775. Anything more expensive seemed to be just more gimmicks. I simply cannot see what would justify over $100 for an electric razor.
The review: This is the closest shaving razor I have ever owned and it actually makes shaving a pleasure. The wider head and the way the various slots are arranged lets me shave by gliding the razor over my face. No pressure needed.
The bad: It feels big and heavy (which can be taken as a positive ... is feels remarkably well built). The swivel head is pure gimmick. It doesn't swivel during normal shaving and seems to be useless. Braun could have made the shaver smaller, lighter and with fewer parts prone to break if they left that "feature" off.
Highly recommended - excellent value.

Braun Mobile Shaver Review

This shaver costs about the same as the foil and cutter for my Braun home shaver so I'm happy with the price. It's great for travel because, 1.) It has a built in foil protector and is small and rugged. 2.) it doesn't weigh much 3.) runs on AA batteries. It works reasonably well but it would not be a substitute for my home shaver because it lacks some special features like a clipper. I am completely happy with it for travel.

I recently purchased this shaver because of the excellent reviews on Amazon. I had considered purchasing one of the more expensive Panasonic shavers but I decided to give this one a try because the price was so good. I have been using this shaver for several days now and I am very pleased with it. It is a gorgeous shaver and even better than I had thought it was going to be. It comes with a charging cord and travel case. It is very quite compared to most shavers. It gives the closest shave that I have ever had and I have tried a number of different shavers made by Braun, Remington and Norelco. It shaves the cheeks, upper lip and chin super fast without irritation but it takes a few extra passes on the neck for me personally. It can be used wet or dry and it cleans easily by rinsing it under water. Amazon is currently selling this shaver for about half the price that most other retailers are charging for it. If you are considering purchasing it then I would suggest doing so while the price is low.

This shaver is no good, I had never used a rotary shaver before so I figured I would buy a cheap one to give it a try if I liked it it I would buy a better one, big mistake, this one is really cheaply made, the nose and ear hair trimmer never worked and the shaver really would not shave you even at all. I know you get what you pay for, but this was really not expected, I ended up raking up a few extra dollars purchasing a better more expensive one and the difference is from earth to heaven, if you can pool the extra money, do so if not just wait and do not buy this.

I got this for my 21st birthday, my 29th is coming up and after years of use its finally wearing out. To be honest, I did a terrible job cleaning it over the years but even so I could always count on it to charge and be ready for use for an extended period of time. The only drawback was it was difficult to shave some bikini areas resulting in some nicks, that is the only reason it gets 4 starts instead of 5. Sadly I need to replace it as I now use an alternate method for shaving my legs and it is weaker than when I first got it but I still use it for my armpits and bikini area.

Remington Short Cut Clipper Rechargeable, Cordless, Haircut Kit Review

Alas, the days of needing to go to a hair stylist - or even needing a comb - are long gone for me. I've been cutting my hair at home for years since I don't see the point in paying someone to cut what little I have left. I've used traditional clippers and they work well, but it's almost impossible to cut your own hair using regular clippers - you need someone to help, especially on the back of your head.
The Shortcut trimmer solves that problem perfectly. It's no harder to use than a brush. Just adjust the setting to the length you want, then move it slowly across your head.
It comes with two types of guides. One is for traditional hair cutting. The other is for shaving your head bald (or very, very close). You have to use the correct guide if you expect to get good results. The reviewer who had a problem with this clearly was using the incorrect guide. The manual explains this - always pays to take a minute to read the manual before using a product.
Very easy to clean. The blades are washable (although the unit itself is not) or you can just brush out the hair with the cleaning brush. Not too loud - about the same as a conventional hair clipper.
You get the best results if you cut just a bit at a time. For example, if you want to end up with 1/4 inch hair, start at the highest setting. After making a few passes , dial it down one notch. Repeat until you're at the length you want. Once you have your hair at the length you want, you can do a touch-up trim once a week to keep it at that length. Now that I have the hang of it, it takes me about 5 min to give myself a haircut.
It also has a trimmer for sideburns and around your ears. It cuts well, but it can be a bit unwieldy to use around the ears. I have a smaller trimmer that I use for that. The trimmer on the Shortcut does do a good job on sideburns.
So, with the caveat that you need to learn how to use it correctly, this is a fantastic product. Highly recommend.

Foil works fine but it is not a complete match for the Braun razor I own. Seems to work perfectly well and i don't mind the color mismatch at all. We'll see it if holds up over the next few weeks. Only problem I have is that a $7.95 shipping charge is outrageous. It is a very small, lightweight package that you could mail for $1.49 at your local post office.

Neutrogena Men Razor Defense, Post Shave Lotion - 2.5 fl oz Review

This is the kind of luxury item that makes for a cheap splurge. Relative to its benefits and available alternative, however, it's a bit pricy for what you get. I bought it mistakenly thinking it was a shaving cream (which Neutrogena does make), and decided to try it.
The most important thing about "Razor Defense" (actually defense is the wrong word, since the damage has already been done, but I suppose "Razor Revenge" sounds kind of violent) is that it works. If your face stings because you shaved too quickly, or without enough water or cream on it, or because you should have replaced your electric shaving blades about 6 months ago, you'll enjoy the immediate soothing of this cream. It actually is light, and the fragrance adds a nice touch. However, those sensitive to fragrance might be cautious about this product, the scent may be subtle, but it's definitely there.
I was somewhat concerned about all the chemicals in the ingredient list; this is not an "all natural" product. However, I recognize Vitamin A (in the form of retinyl palmitate, a combination of retinol, a naturally occurring form of Vitamin A and Palmitic Acid),, Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), E (Tocopheryl Acetate), pantothenic acid, aloe, the astringent witch hazel distillate, benzyl alcohol, chitosan lactate (oops, looks like this is probably not a vegetarian product), allantoin (an anti-irritant formed from urine or from the comfrey plant, we hope the latter) and soybean seed extract. It's a little difficult to believe that all of these chemicals (alcohol?) arenecessary or ideal for your facial health and beauty, but I'm not a chemist, and who am I to question big industry.
Recommended for non-vegetarians chemists and those who like a little pampering in the morning. It does make your face feel good when irritated by shaving.

The Panasonic ES-LA63-S Wet/Dry Shaver provides an incredibly close and comfortable shave. However, it has a few minor drawbacks. Here's some of its pros and cons:

The Panasonic shaves just about as close as traditional shaving blades. Compared to blades, this shaver definitely provides a more comfortable shave - wet or dry. There's no need for shaving foam, although you can use it if you choose.
- Wet/Dry Convenience
I usually opt for dry shaving simply because it's more convenient, but I occasionally choose to have a wet shave for the increased comfort a wet shave provides.
- Easy To Clean
You can easily clean the shaver by rinsing it under tap water while it is running. There's no need to crack it open to clean it.
- Pop-Up Trimmer
The pop-up trimmer does as good a job as a dedicated trimmer.
- Good Ergonomics
The shaver is comfortable to hold. The back of the shaver is rubberized to help improve your grip on the shaver.Cons

- No Charging Dock / Cleaning Station
This model doesn't have a cleaning station like the Panasonic ES8249S Arc IV Nanotech Vortex Wet/Dry Rechargeable Shaver does. For the price, I'd expect at least a charging dock.
- Bulky Head
The shaving head is a little on the bulky side, which makes it a little unwieldy for targeting specific areas.
- Additional Points
The shaver is rather plain-looking. Besides an LCD screen with a battery indicator, there's really not much to write home about. The build quality is descent but the shaver looks a bit too plasticky. It falls short of expectations in the aesthetics department for a shaver that costs this much.

Despite a few shortcomings, I like the Panasonic ES-LA63-S Shaver for the incredibly close shave it provides and for the ease with which it can be cleaned.

I was skeptical at first, the price range for other flex-head razors is always 3 digits and up $100+. After receiving the item and unpacking everything, comes with a lot of extras and add-ons, my earlier skepticism grew. So much for so cheap, I figured that the product itself must be of pore quality or the motor is going to crap out...etc. Ive had the thing for several months now and compared to the several Remington and Phillips I have had in the past, this is my favorite so far. Smooth, easy, clean shaving and the charge last for a while. I like the attachments and the dry/wet use was something new that I now like. Overall, for what I paid, good product. Even if the razor only lasts hopefully a year, I'll be buying another when it does go.

I've owned this Norelco shaver for one year. It does have a wonderful flexible head and will give a very close shave if used daily. I'm retired and shave approx 3 times per week. If growth is longer than 2 days you must augment with a non electric shaver in the shower. I am going to retire this unit and move on. The major problem is the design does not allow for a lot of beard to be retained in the head thus I end up with hair over my upper torso because of limted capacity. This inspite of washing after every use.

I have used a Remington Black Men's Electric Shaver for over 5 years with great results. The only problem is they don't make it anymore as far as I can tell and my current one has a nick in the screen that scratches my face. So I tried this bump free Wahl. It basically did not do as advertised. It was supposed to trim the whiskers above the surface so that they don't curl back in under the skin like lift and cut or close shave razors do. This Wahl basically took off a top layer of skin and lifted pulled and chewed out most of my whiskers while just laying some down without cutting them at all.
I've decided to go to the disposable type black men's bump control razor I can get at Walmart. While it takes me a little longer to shave than electric, it is doing the type of job my old Remington did.
Hope this helps. If you want bump control for curly facial hair, DO NOT BUY THIS!!!

It works...sort of. I got this for Christmas and, as a person always looking for something better than a razor and shaving cream, I was really excited.
The shave isn't anywhere near as close as a standard razor, it leaves little stubblies of hair behind, sort of a day after shaving effect. It doesn't cut you, as promised, but that's about the best thing it has going for it. It left my skin really irritated, even with really nice shaving gels, and even after a couple weeks of use.
So, I'm back with my Venus, which is the best razor I've ever found. And the wet dry shaver has joined the corpses of my other 'miracle' hair removal products. It has joined the Nair, the Nads, the Veet and that barbaric little machine that just yanks your hair out by the roots.
If you don't mind a bumpy, stubbly finish, by all means, pick one of these babies up.

I tried this after the much cheaper Williams product proved quite effective, but left an unpleasant solvent smell on my face; I was smelling it all day. I find this Kyoku product just as effective, and the fragrance is minimal and inoffensive. Since it comes in a spray bottle, you use less, so it will last longer. That's a good thing, because this bottle holds only 50 cc (less than 2 fluid ounces) of the product. Still, I will probably buy another bottle when this one runs out, because I'm quite satisfied with the results.

Infiniti by Conair Curvations Ladies Shaver, Model LWD500CS 1 ea Review

I've tried various different ladies' electric razors in the past three years...Braun, Panasonic and this one. I chose the Conair "Infiniti" based on attractive appearance, unique slimmer and lighter design, and features. Price was a bit high, but I think it was worth it. It was easy to use and handles nice. It also features two shaving heads with foils and a pop-up trimmer if you desire to use it. I found the two heads to have an advantage over the others I've tried with one. You have to look carefully when shavers say they have features such as "three heads", etc. The Panasonic I used up until now boasted three heads when in fact it was just one large head, one pop-up trimmer, and one designed only for much longer hairs (which it states in the instructions as something like 1/2" or more?) which is kind of dumb to have something like that for women's legs. At least I would hope so. Anyway this Conair gave me a much quicker and easier shave and is great for stubble especially. With the Panasonic and Braun, I had to go over and over my legs. I suggest to not push hard when shaving...try and use a firm but light touch. The head on this model is flexible, which helps with curves or bumpy areas such as knees or ankles. It is quiet, the top snaps apart for cleaning, and it has an easy to use charging stand. Also comes with a cleaning brush, instruction book, and razor head cap/cover. I recommend it.

I have been using a Wahl beard trimmer for nearly 6 years. It finally started to show its age and I went looking for a new one. I tried Remington brand, and they just did not work for me. I have very thick, stubborn hair and the Remmington's blades did not get close enough to my skin to get the hairs I wanted. So I went back to what I knew worked, and re-ordered a new Wahl Beard Trimmer. This one is very similar to my old one, except a few new things. There are more blade guards than before, and the clipper setting now has 6 stages instead of 5. Otherwise, the trimmer is the same.
And that is a good thing. Immediately, the new Wahl made a difference and I am very happy with the results. The reason why Wahl is so much better than anything else (including the Remington) is that the blades that move back and forth as so much closer the to the guard teeth that you can see the difference. Go to a store and look...you can see the difference between this trimmer and other brands. The Wahl will always cut closer and better. There is no other brand I would recommend - Wahl trimmers are simply the highest quality you can find in this price range that give the closest trim on your face.

I have never been able to wet shave, as my sensitive skin burns when treated to a razor - indeed, after wet shaving, the pores along my jaw line would literally bleed. So, I consider myself an electric shaver expert. I just recently junked an expensive, but inferior razor, and decided to try the Braun Series 1 1-150 razor. Well, I was not disappointed!
This very nice razor charges quickly, gives a very good shave, and is washable - a very nice feature. It fits in the hand nicely, and the plastic cover holds on quite well (I actually shave in the car during my morning commute, so I need a razor that can stand up to above normal abuse). The precision trimmer snaps out, works well, and then snaps in with a flick of the thumb.
So, let me just sum up by saying that I put heavy use into a razor, and need one that takes the abuse and does its job without fail. The Braun Series 1 1-150 lives up to my needs, and I am very happy with it. Take the advice of one who knows, and buy this excellent razor!

I use a blade most days, but on the weekends I use a fairly new Braun self-cleaning electric. While I always feel the blade is better than the electric, I tend to "touch up" both shaves with this pretty inexpensive, battery powered Rem on my way to work.
It's old, rarely cleaned and always mistreated (it lives in the glovebox here on the Bayou), yet it does a great job on those tough areas. For this kind of money, I'd say it's a steal, or better stated, a Remington Steele ;)

So if you're here, it's either because (1) you're one of the old schoolers who recognized the brand and was looking for another razor like the one you had back when shaving was an art form, or (2) you're a young buck who has done studying and have heard the recent hype: That straight razors and safety razors are making a comeback.
Unfortunately, I can't speak to the 1st audience, because I wasn't born when Merkur was made popular. I can, however, speak to the 2nd audience, as I somewhat fit into that category.
First some history. I'd been a Gillette man for the longest time. I had the old Mach 2 Turbo, then the Mach 3, then the M3 Power, then the Fusion. Yes, I've wasted a lot of money, between the handles and the replacement razors. I'd estimate it to be in the $1,000 range. Well, as you can probably understand, I didn't want to spend that money on razors anymore, plus I'd read stories that the straight and safety razors of old times are supposed to be better for your shaving area than the newer razors with multiple blades and lube strips, mostly due to the frequency of razor burn. So I decide to pick one of these up.
Just so you know, I use (and recommend) various shaving products, listed as follows:
- Proraso Shaving Soap with Eucalyptus Oil and Menthol - Normal Skin 150ml/5.2oz - I use this now. Very good lather, good smell, a bit expensive and a tad difficult to rinse out of the razor if you don't give it enough water.
- Proraso Pre and Post Shave Cream - 3.6 oz - I use this now. Makes the blade glide over the skin when applied as a base under the shaving soap. Increases the eucalyptus smell and gives a cooling sensation to the face. Good stuff, small portion.
- Proraso Menthol and Allantoin Aftershave Splash - I use this now. Smells like a lighter version of BRUT which was disappointing; I expected a light eucalyptus smell. Seems to do pretty good at smoothing the skin, nice texture, but nothing special.
- Van Der Hagen Select Shave Soap, 2.5-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12) - I use this now. Great value for the price, solid soap, lathers thick, but you have to have the right ratio of soap to water, so it's not too runny.
- Col. Conk World's Famous Shaving Soap, Almond * 3 - Pack * Each Net Weight 2.25 Oz - Great smell, applies smooth, but doesn't lather quite as thick as I prefer. Also I found it had basically tarnished the inside of the soap cup over time. Not a big deal, just something to consider.
- 100 7a.m. Platinum Double Edge Safety Razor Blades - Excellent value, they don't last long...the idea is to buy so many that it doesn't matter if they don't last that long. I can get between 1 and 2 weeks use out of a single blade; so you figure between 1 and 3 years without having to buy more.
- Shaving Gift Set with Merkur Safety Razor, Bowl, Shaving Soap, Badger Brush, Stand and Safety Razor, Great Fathers Day Gift - Bought for myself, the brush is good, and I gave away the small razor that came with it. It's not the top of the line but it'll do.The first thing I noticed about this little ditty is that it's easy to clean. If you're like me and you shave using a running faucet of warm/hot water, you'll be right at home and pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to clean. One thing to watch out for - because it's all metal, it holds in the heat VERY WELL - so you'll not want to use full heat or I guarantee you'll burn yourself something fierce.
Second thing I noticed, and quite notable, is how easy it is to replace the actual blade. Just unscrew the handle, lift off the bottom, replace the blade, replace and screw back on. Never easier. Speaking of the blade, the instructions don't tell you how frequently to replace the blade, but online some people state to replace it once a week. That seems a bit frequent to me if you're just doing maintenance shaves once a day. Some with rougher beards I can understand, but mine is not nearly that bad - and mostly maintenance from previous shaves. I would say - change it when it feels like it's starting to snag easier than you're thinking it should. The biggest things to keep in mind: lather, lather, lather, and keep the blade wet.
I saw a few people were cutting themselves with this razor. I haven't cut myself and I've used it quite a bit. The two main causes of cutting oneself are incorrect angling and too much pressure. Because this is a razor with no plastic guides to protect you, it means you have to go slower, be more careful, and master the art of shaving the way it was originally intended. Not for nothing though - you just need to practice control. Also, you can't hold this razor like the older ones, you really need to hold it with graceful fingers; the lighter you hold it the less tempted you'll be to press down when you're shaving. The angle also matters - it shouldn't be held like a squeegee, it should be held at roughly a 30 degree angle. The combination will effectively leave it up to the blade to do the cutting, not your strength (or lack thereof).
I did notice that this blade can get insanely close. In fact, just to test, I shaved with my old Fusion razor and felt my face; I could feel follicles, but then I shaved right after with the Merkur, and it actually got hair that the Fusion didn't. Additionally, I had some razor bumps on my neckline, not too large, but still visible, no matter how frequently I shaved. Since shaving with the Merkur, some of these have disappeared entirely. I also follow up my shave with an all-over astringent due to oil issues, and normally it's a crazy burn after shaving, but after shaving with the Merkur there's no burn whatsoever. Definitely a positive change from what I used to experience, trust me.
Some added information: you want to make sure your face is clean before shaving. I say that because the oils and dirt on your face can contribute to razor bumps and poor shaving quality. The cleaner the better. In my case I use some shower cleaners that work extremely well, but just make sure your face is clean with whatever you choose to use. Also, to improve the quality of the shave, I apply a bit of baby oil to my still-wet face, then the shaving soap lather on top of that. Helps the blade move smoother across the skin and makes it feel baby smooth. Some other items are body oil (Vaseline has two good ones, cocoa butter and aloe vera) and and certain pre-shave oils. Everyone's physiology is different though; do whatever is comfortable for you. I'm just adding this here for ideas.
In short, if you're tired of paying $20-$30 for blades that claim to last a month yet last a week or two...if you're wanting a closer, more comfortable shave with little-to-no razor burn...if you want to experience what the old schoolers have been talking about, definitely try a Merkur.
I wanted to throw in a bit here as I see more and more reviews from people who just don't get it. Merkur is all about the quality of the shave, not the speed. I don't know how many times people need to express that, but if you do your research you will find numerous people saying the same thing - this razor is NOT for those who just want to speed through their shave! You need to take your time and not rush through it. You WILL cut yourself if you rush with this razor. You WILL NOT get a quality shave if you don't take your time. You WILL wear down the blade if you dry shave, and this blade WILL NOT protect you. If you're going to use this razor, take the proper precautions. If you know you're a speed demon shaver, DON'T BUY THIS, because I really don't want to see you up on here complaining that you have to take your time.

Neutrogena Men Sensitive Skin Shave Cream, 5.1 Ounce Review

This review is for people who use a wet/dry electric shaver in the shower.
Let me start off by saying that I love Neutrogena products and I use them exclusively in my house. And even though I have sensitive skin, this product left me unimpressed. Over the course of a few years, and in an effort to find a solution to razor burn and ingrown hairs, I discovered a system that works extremely well using the original Neutrogena Shave Cream. Just so you are aware of how I used this shave cream, let me describe my wet shaving procedure:
1. Get in the shower and wet my face with warm water and wash it with soap.
2. After washing my entire body, I shave last, so that the heat and steam has opened up all my pores and my facial hair is soft.
3. Apply Neutrogena Men Skin Clearing Shave Cream by hand.
4. Douse Philips Norelco 8020X Cool Skin Moisturizing Shaver with warm water and shave normally; rinse shaver when done.
5. Exit the shower and apply Neutrogena Men Triple Protect Face Lotion, SPF 20 or Neutrogena Men Razor Defense, Face Lotion. I use the SPF lotion if I'm applying it in the morning, or I'll use the non-SPF lotion if applying it at night. It's important that you do this as soon as you dry off your face because you want to apply it while your pores are still open.
When I swapped out my old Neutrogena Shave Cream with their new sensitive formula cream, I discovered that the shave cream did not stay on my face long enough to keep it lubricated for an electric wet shave. I would get about halfway through before the razor would stop gliding over my face. The shave cream is very much like a liquid, so it runs off your face fairly quickly, especially when it's really wet. It has the consistency of shampoo, if that gives you any idea of what it's like. Their non-sensitive shave cream does not run at all, it's like regular lotion; once you put it on, it stays put. Also, because the sensitive cream is more like a liquid, you'll find that you need to use more, much more, than their non-sensitive cream, so the price goes up significantly in that regard. It does have a more slippery feel to it when compared to their original formula.
There is one thing I simply LOVE about this shaving cream, and that's the smell, it's fantastic and very manly. If Spike TV were to make a shaving cream, this would be it. However, if it doesn't stay on my face long enough to finish a shave, then the amazing smell does me no good. Of course, the product isn't completely ineffective either. For the short time it did stay on my face, it worked well, so for my use, 2 stars is apropos.
Something else I noticed is that the new sensitive formula has done away with the ingredient, Salicylic Acid. Being that every now and then I'll get a pimple, that's all the more reason to stick with the old formula which still has it.
For those of you that have sensitive skin, let me recommend that you try shaving in the shower (either electric or regular). Most people don't realize that the process of shaving is actually quite traumatic to your face. Wet shaving in the shower significantly reduces that trauma, and you also reduce blade wear on your razor by about 60% in comparison. This is due to the hair being much softer because of the warm water and steam. When you combine all these factors together, razor burn and ingrown hairs are significantly reduced for most people.

I had never heard of an "epilator" before a few days ago when I was researching different hair removal methods. I had been through depilatory creams/foam (yuck, never again), home wax (too messy, painful, and it removed like.. 2 hairs), and razors (which I used regularly, it grows back too fast). I had no idea that this type of product even existed.
I bought it today at the store and used it right when I got home, on my legs. When I turned it on I sort of freaked out at the noise (it's a loud buzzing noise like an electric razor) and the image of gigantic tweezer blades rapidly snapping away at my skin filled my head. I took a deep breath, sprayed my skin with bactine (I read that it's good to somewhat numb the skin with bactine before trying it), dried it off, and tried it.
Wow.. it wasn't even very painful. The soft cushiony area massaged my skin as the hair was pulled out. The pulling sensation felt like tiny little pricks. The one thing I recommend is to glide the device slowly, at a 90 degree angle, over the skin. It is more effective and time efficient. I know that I'll get better at it with time, but for someone who has never epilated before, it was very easy and I am *very* satisfied with this product.
I also tried the device on my underarms. It was awkward at first - I had to grip the device tightly because the frequency of the hair being pulled out was more than my leg. Having more hair in a smaller area also made it a little bit more painful - but it was definitely bearable.
I'm glad that I finally found another hair removal option that can be done in just a matter of minutes and lasts for more than just a day!

Axis AX-1300 Rev Foil Shaver Review

This is an excellent shaver and it is definitely worth the price paid. It is much better than it's counterparts from Braun and Panasonic. Braun has just one large foil on its PocketGo, while Panasonic has two, but lacks what this shaver has - the trimmer in between the foils, which cuts long hair.
When I opened this shaver and had to clean it for the first time, I noticed that workmanship is so-so (plastic-feeling), but when I found out it was washable, I was definitely happy. It works fine - takes me less time to shave than with previous Remington, which had only one foil and was as noisy as 747 taking off.
Moreover, this shaver's got the looks as well - so if you wanna take smth to the gym and not look like you're 65 (no offence to those of you who are), it would definitely turn some heads.
I personally think that this shaver is very good as a gift idea, shaver to go, or just an every-day shaver for guys with not too much facial hair (raising my hand).
All in all, the conclusion is if you have moderate facial hair growth, this baby is a steal. But for guys with serious beards, I'd suggest looking for something along the lines of Braun 5775 or 7260 - it's more powerful, but uses the sae cutting system as this shaver.

I received the Norelco mositorizing shaver for Christmas from my wife. I was hestitant to use an electric shaver and especially a wet shaver. After 4 months,I would never go back to a conventional shaver. I enjoy the ability to shave in the shower and I get a very close shave, very comparable to the conventional razor. It took a couple of weeks for my beard to adjust to the new system and also for me to adapt. I use the normal Nivea shaving lotion, rather than the moistorizing lotion, since it is easy to apply and is more cost effective. I would not go back to the old way of shaving. I am 61 and change is hard at this age, however with the Norelco 8040. it makes it easy.

Philips Norelco Arcitec 1050X Rechargeable Cordless Razor + Accessory Kit Review

I was drawn in by the sleek modern looks of this razor. I'm always used Philips Norelco rotaries in the past and have been very happy with them. My last razor was a Philips Norelco SpeedXL and I'd still be using it today if I had not worn out 2 of the blades after 4 years of heavy use. In fact, I keep it around to help get the stray hairs the Arcitec misses.
If your stubble is medium to heavy thickness, then this razor will annoy the heck out of you. What used to take me about 2 minutes now takes more than 5. It just doesn't want to cut ...and if you have more than 2 days' growth, you are really in for a problem. It takes multiple passes with me stretching my skin to try to get the hairs up for this razor to get at them, and even then it misses some. It is less than 6 months old and it's as if the blades have gotten dull. But they don't pull at the hairs so that is not it. It took 2 years for my last razor's blades to dull. This one just refuses to cut well. I clean and charge it religiously, so that isn't the issue either. To top it off, the small extendable straight razor is all but useless because the main shaving head gets in the way.
This is a good looking razor that holds a charge for a long time, but that is where the pros end. I wish I could return it but I waited too long. I'll be going back to the bulkier (but quieter) XL style after this one, or maybe even convert to a Braun. You let me down with this product Philips.

Philips Norelco 1050CC arcitec Men's Shaving System Review

I bought the new Philips Norelco 1050cc Arcitec Shaving System, returned it for a refund after 30 days, and then purchased a the new Braun Pulsonic 9595 Shaving System. Since I've had experience with both now, I thought my experience might be of value to others. I've had 3 Norelco shavers over the past 20 years. The 9595 is my first Braun shaver.
Shaving Closeness - The Braun definitely gives a closer shave and in less time, although the Norelco is acceptable. One reviewer commented about getting nicks from the Braun but I have not had that problem at all, even around the chin.
Comfort - The Braun feels heavier (I didn't actually weigh them) but I found the Braun more comfortable to hold.
Noise - The Braun is noisier, especially during the cleaning cycle.
Status Indicators on the Shaver - The indicators are better on the Braun; however, I've since learned that's mostly because I had the 1050 model. I now see that the 1060 or the 1090 models would have been better and probably would equal the Braun.
Charging/Cleaning Stand - The Braun is more convenient to replace the cleaning fluid but about the same cost (about $1.00 per week). Both seem to clean equally well. The charge and cleaning status lights on the Braun are easier to see and give better status information. But the big difference here is the way the charging system works. With the Braun, you simply place your used razor in the stand, push a button, and the cleaning & charging are taken care of. However, with the Norelco, there are a number of warnings in the book to unplug the unit after it completes its cycle. This is a major inconvenience if you have to hang around and remember to unplug the unit. Also, the lack of an on/off switch seems a poor and cheap design.
Trimmer - To even off my sideburns, I found the Norelco somewhat difficult to use because the trimmer did not stick out far enough beyond the shaving head. This was not a problem with the Braun.
Cost - The Braun cost about $20 more.
Return Policy - 60 day money back with Norelco; only 30 days with Braun.
Bottom-Line - I started with a bias toward the Norelco because of my past experiences but in my opinion, this new Braun definitely surpasses the Norelco in terms of shaving closeness and convenience. Braun is clearly worth the extra $20, although the Norelco is a decent product.

Yes it does, I have been using it for years now....one spray can lasts me for somewhere around a year...a few short sprays on the electric razor head and you have slicker surface which allows for a much better shave....no appreciable residue and pleasant odor.....soon ready for purcahsing a couple more cans.....

Braun Series Pulsonic Shaver System Review

I've accumulated quite a few electric razors over the years, with the three most recent being the new models from Norelco, Braun and Panasonic. So, thought I'd do a comparison to perhaps help those who are debating between these high-end models.
But first let's get a basic question out of the way: do you have to spend this much to get a good shave from an electric shaver? Absolutely not. Lower-end models such as the Braun Series 5, the 7000 and 8000 Norelco series and the Panasonic ArcIV are great shavers. What you get for the extra money is a slight improvement in the shave, a bit better design, and a few somewhat useful bells and whistles.
Build quality - all are very nicely put together. The Braun feels the most substantial; the 3D feels the most "plasticy."
Sound - the 3D runs very quietly; the Braun and Panasonic are far more "buzzy" but not too loud.
Overall feel - for me, the Braun feels the most comfortable to hold. Easy to grip even if your hands are wet. The Panasonic is a close second. The 3D feels the most awkward. Not horrible, but not all that comfortable either.
Dry shave: closeness - this is a tough call, with the Braun and the Panasonic both providing very close shaves. The 3D does a pretty good job, but my face does not feel as smooth as with the others.
Dry shave: speed - the 3D is the clear winner here. Just mows through my beard, with a total shave time of less than 3 min. The Panasonic takes about 4 min for a good shave; the Braun clocks in at about 5 min.
Dry shave: neck - this is the most difficult area for most shavers, and all of these models left a few errant hairs here and there. The 3D did the best but it comes at the expense of some irritation (see the next note). The Braun and Panasonic are about equal.
Dry shave: comfort - Braun is the winner for me, followed by the Panasonic. Zero redness even in the more sensitive spots (jaw line and neck). The 3D left me with some red spots on my neck. Nothing severe, but it is clearly a notch below the others on the comfort meter.
Wet shave - this is limited to just the Panasonic and the 3D. I'm not a big fan of wet shaving, but both of these do a very good job. The Panny works best with a very thin layer of gel-type cream; the 3D works best with a heavier lather (I got good results with Edge). Both provided close shaves, with the Panny a bit more gentle than the 3D. But, the 3D did a better job on the neck and jaw line.
**Update: Just tried the new Remington Alphagel shaving cream and that works very well with both the Panny and the Norelco. The scent is a bit heavy (menthol) but the no-foam consistency is a perfect match for a wet electric shave. Much better than any other shave cream I've tried. I reviewed the Alphagel if you want more info.
Maneuverability - this is where the Braun really shines for me. I have a mustache, and edging it with the Braun is a piece of cake. The 3D takes some practice, but it can do a decent job. Worst by far was the Panasonic - the huge head makes it very hard to create a clean edge around the `stash.
Auto cleaning - I love the cleaning station from Braun. Works well, cleans well, and the razor comes out lemony-fresh. The Panasonic cleaning station is OK, but is louder, takes longer, and the water-based cleaning solution is not as effective. I can't comment on the 3D station since the model I bought didn't come with it.
Manual cleaning - both the Panasonic and 3D are very easy to clean manually. They actually don't need the auto cleaning station (although it is handy for storage for the Panny). The cutters are removable from the 3D (unlike the Arcitec models) for extra cleaning every so often. The Braun can be cleaned with water, but it's hard to get it very clean since the cutter block is a single unit.
Lots more that I could say about these razors, but this review is already way too long. If I had to pick just one, I'd go with the Braun. While not perfect, it excels in several areas and feels the best. It also offers three settings (gentle, normal and intensive) that vary the speed of the cutters, a feature the other two lack. I find that very helpful. Plus, replacement heads are easily available and often discounted (as are the cleaning cartridges). But, the 3D and the Panasonic are also very good shavers and will get the job done. If you are willing to spend the money, any one of these would be a good choice.
Note: I have the Braun 790cc-4 since I was able to get it at a fantastic price (on another site - sorry Amazon!) on Black Friday. But, under normal pricing situations, the 760 is cheaper and a better value. They work the same, with the differences limited to color of the razor, type of read-out on the handle, and the fact that the 760 lacks the "quick clean" feature in the cleaning station. None of these are really significant, so if you go with the Braun, pick the one that is cheaper.
But, you have to learn how to use an electric razor properly to get a good shave. Some quick tips:
1) Don't press hard - use an easy touch. If the heads are getting warm or hot, you're pressing too hard.
2) Shave against the grain when using a foil; shave in circular motions when using a rotary.
3) Stretch your skin taut when shaving your neck
4) Wait at least an hour after getting up before shaving (everyone's face gets a bit puffy when sleeping).

Braun Series 5 Shaver System Review

About 5 years ago I upgraded from a Braun 5 series to a Braun 7 series. The pulsonic microvibrations seemed like overkill at the time but I got used to them after about a week. Two weeks ago I needed to replace my series 7 and purchased this 565 and, boy do I miss the microvibrations now. This razor acts like its battery is dying when it is put under the load of my one-day-old whiskers. I have to move the shaver so slowly across my face or it feels like it is pulling the hair rather than shaving. I ended up with a very close shave which made me happy but at almost 3X the length of time as my 7 series. If you've always had a 5 series, you will probably be happy with this one. If you have had a 7 series, I don't recommend downgrading to this.

This feels like needles scraping over your skin. I can't imagine using this on a child's neck. I am a retired Barber/Stylist and I have never felt a razor's edge quite as sharp and cutting as this thing. I will choose another brand from Amazon.
HDE does not "under any circumstances" pay for return shipping. I wrote them an email and I told them that I should think they would be grateful that I told them that this razor is physically hurtful and that I think they should pay return shipping. It isn't like I am returning it because I changed my mind or don't like the color. No, it is because it scratches the skin like needles or finger nails.

Remington Precision Grooming Travel Kit Review

Although its a labeled as a travel kit, I use it every other day to touch-up my facial hair and once a week to trim the nose hairs. Has lasted exactly one year today and works great. I've only used Remington for my shaving needs and they've never disappointed me. I'll probably buy another one for when I drop this and break the tip like I did with my shaver.
